Audra McDonald's artistry is unmatched in the range and variety of her work as a vocalist, and performer. As the winner of an unprecedented 6 Tony Awards (two Grammy Awards) as well as an Emmy Award, McDonald was included in Time magazine's list of 100 people who are influential in the year 2015. In addition, she was awarded President Barack Obama's National Medal of Arts for her work. Because of her beautiful tone, and unbeatable ability of telling compelling stories, she has found success on Broadway and in the opera as well as in both film and television. Alongside her theatrical work she maintains a major career as a concert and recording performer who regularly appears at world's foremost venues. McDonald was brought up in Fresno California by her musical parents and studied classical singing in the Juilliard School, New York. A year after graduating McDonald won her Tony Award Best Performance for a Lead Actress of Musical in Carousel in the Lincoln Center Theater. Over the next four years, she won two more Tony Awards as a featured actor for her performances as a featured actress in Terrence Mcnally's Broadway debuts Master Class (1996) and Ragtime (1998). She has a total number of Tony Awards is unprecedented at three prior to the age of 30. She took home her 4th Tony for her role as a lead in A Raisin in the Sun alongside Sean Diddy Combs. McDonald's credits in theater include The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). McDonald was introduced to the TV audience as a dramatic actress by Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters first 100 years. In 1999, she co-starred alongside Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. Also, she had an occasional role in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in 2000. McDonald won her debut Emmy for her role as a character in the HBO version of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit directed by Mike Nichols, starring Emma Thompson. In 2003, she returned to the screen, this time with Mister Sterling produced by Emmy Award-winning Lawrence O'Donnell Jr., which starred Josh Brolin. The Bedford Diaries, a WB TV show, debuted in the year 2006. Then she had a recurring part on NBC's Kidnapped during the following year. McDonald received a fourth Emmy for her performance as Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill on HBO in the year 2016. The Bite will be a six-episode series about a pandemic coproduced with Spectrum Originals, CBS Studios and Taylor Schilling in 2021. McDonald was first seen in the CBS Legal drama The Good Wife as U.S. attorneys Liz Lawrence and Liz Reddick from 2009 until 2018. She reprised her role (now called Liz Reddick) in The Good Fight as a Paramount+ season regular. McDonald has been nominated in the three Critics Choice Award awards. She guest stars as a guest star in Julian Fellowes historical drama The Gilded Age.
